Most probably the Jeep Meridian will make its India debut in the coming months. The launch of the Jeep Compass Trailhawk will mostly follow soon.
Last week, we told you that Jeep India has plans to launch two products in 2022 – the jeep Compass Trailhawk facelift and the Meridian. The latter has been spotted once again but this time in a more production-ready guise.
The Jeep Meridian is a three-row SUV, which is likely to debut in the coming months, before the Compass Trailhawk facelift, which may be launched in the Q2 of 2022. The Meridian will take on the likes of the newly launched Skoda Kodiaq facelift, MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner, and Mahindra Alturas G4. The lower variants of the upcoming Jeep Meridian are likely to influence the buyers of the Mahindra XUV700, especially if the XUV700 continues to have a long waiting list.
The Meridian is, in fact, on sale in the international market as the Jeep Commander. The SUV features a petrol and a diesel engine, just as the Jeep Compass. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which is found in Tata, MG, and Citroen SUVs, will power the Meridian as well. The gearbox with the diesel engine will be a nine-speed auto, which is the same setup that features in the Jeep Compass diesel. The power output is likely to be tweaked, so expect a number close to 180bhp. There will be an optional all-wheel-drive system available with the Meridian – it will be sacrilege if Jeep gave 4x4 a miss.
The petrol variant will feature the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol; however, we’re uncertain if Jeep will offer the Meridian in the Indian market with a petrol engine. The Meridian is a large SUV with a capacity to haul seven souls and luggage. The 1.4-litre turbo-petrol might not be the most efficient option for the job. However, only time will tell what Jeep has in store for its Indian buyers.
Expect the Meridian to make an appearance next month, which will soon be followed by the official price announcement.
