The Jaguar XJ Ultimate, based on the long-wheelbase XJ, has just gone on sale in India. Focused on making a car that is its most luxurious XJ ever, Jaguar first unveiled the Ultimate at the Beijing Motorshow last year. Now that it's stretched, how has Jaguar been able to give it that extra oomph? Here is how, (deep breath) It has two individually tailored rear seats with a massage function, and there is a champagne chiller and flutes between the seats. It comes fitted with two eight-inch hi-resolution screens placed at the back of the front seat headrests. Additionally, it has two 3rd generation iPads with wireless keyboards docked in the front seat backs, wireless headphones and even a 20-speaker surround sound in-car entertainment system. Phew!
To complete the experience of both business & pleasure, the champagne chiller fitted between the rear two seats, 'presents' the bottle towards the passengers, when the champagne has cooled to the perfect temperature. Of course, there are also two specially commissioned champagne flutes present to enable the passengers to sip their bubbly in style. And to make sure the ambience is keeping in with the luxury, the Ultimate also features a specially developed 20-speaker surround sound system developed by British audio experts Meridian.
There are a few changes to the exterior as well. The car rests on 20-inch forged alloy wheels and gets subtly redesigned front air intakes and new exhaust tailpipes finished in stainless steel. And then there is the obvious ‘Ultimate' badge which is slapped across the XJ's aluminium body. The XJ Ultimate is available with its existing 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine (seen in the XKR) which churns out 503bhp and 625Nm of torque. It will also come with the efficient 3.0-litre V6, 271 bhp diesel engine. Mated to an eight-speed transmission, the XJ Ultimate truly redefines opulence and luxury.
The price for this Business Class luxury, is a mere Rs. 1.87 crore for the V8 5.0, while the 3.0 Diesel V6 Ultimate costs Rs. 1.78 crore (all prices ex-showroom Mumbai).
