After having seen it in the flesh at the 2012 Indian Auto Expo, it was saddening to hear that Jaguar had axed the C-X75 hybrid supercar project due to the global economic crisis. But then again, Jaguar had said that the C-X75 will lead the way for the next generation of Jaguar sportscars.

True to their word, here it is. Jaguar released a handful of pictures of their C-X75 prototype. Jaguar plans to put it into limited production to get the ball rolling. The C-X75 will boast of a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder plug-in hybrid engine which is capable of producing 500bhp. Adding to the power quotient are two electric motors that together produce 390bhp. The tally of the horses produced adds up to a massive 850bhp.

All this power propels the C-X75 from 0-100km/h in less than three seconds and helps it achieve a top speed of 354km/h. It being a plug-in hybrid, can go for 64 km without any emissions.

We’ve seen a lot of plug-in hybrid supercars recently – the McLaren P1 and the LaFerrari to name a few but we all know that when it comes to Jaguar, there is always something special. Let’s hope we get to see the production version soon.
