Apart from being crowned as the World Car of the Year, Jaguar's all-electric I-Pace also bagged Green Car of the Year and Design of the Year awards at the 2019 World Car Awards.
The Jaguar I-Pace has been crowned the 2019 World Car of the Year. But that’s not where the good news for Jaguar ends, because, in addition to taking the top honour at the awards ceremony, their first-ever all-electric vehicle bagged two more awards in the Green Car and Design of the Year category. This makes the I-Pace the first car to bag three awards in the same year in the event’s history.
The World Car Awards are held everywhere and this year marked the 15th edition of the awards ceremony. The jury includes a total of 86 judges from 24 countries including India (autoX’s editor Dhruv Behl is also part of the panel). This year, the jurors voted the Jaguar I-Pace as the best vehicle overall, ahead of two other finalists, namely the Audi e-tron and Volvo S60/V60. In the Green Car category, the I-Pace pipped the Audi e-tron again, and also beat the Hyundai Nexo. To claim the Design of the Year award, the I-Pace came out in front of the Suzuki Jimny and Volvo XC40.
The 2019 Performance Car of the Year honour went to the McLaren 720S, as it got the better of the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door in the final round. Audi’s new A7 won the World Luxury Car of the Year award, ahead of its sibling, the Q8, and BMW’s 8 Series.
Suzuki’s plucky off-roader, the all-new Jimny, swept the 2019 World Urban Car of the Year award, ahead of the Korean duo of Kia Soul and Hyundai Santro.
The World Car Awards committee honoured FCA’s late CEO, Sergio Marchionne, with the prestigious World Car Person of the Year award for this year.
