A couple of months after having driven it, the most talked about car from the Jaguar Land Rover stable, finally comes to India. Jaguar launched the F-Type in India today – a car which represents a return to the company’s heartland: a two-seater convertible sports car focused on performance, agility and driver involvement.
The Jaguar F-Type takes over the reins from the E-Type and lives upto, or might we say, goes much beyond anybody’s expectations. Joining the XK convertible and coupe models, the new F-Type provides Jaguar with a broader line of sports and GT models.
Two variants of the Jaguar F-Type will be available in India – F-Type S and F-Type V8S. They are powered respectively by Jaguar’s new 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol engine with an output of 375 bhp and its 5.0-litre V8 supercharged petrol producing 490bhp.
While the V8S reaches 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds and has a top speed of 300 km/h, the V6 S does the same distance in 4.9 seconds with a top speed of 275 km/h.
The V8S variant does not get a V8 badge but one look at the rear of this sports car and you can tell the difference. The V8S has a quad exhaust, while the V6S’s exhaust is centrally placed.
Jaguar believes that the F-Type will be a game changer for the Indian sports car market. Considering Jaguar India has registered sales growth of 68% in the first quarter of this fiscal year, helped by the locally assembled Jaguar XF 2.2 litre diesel, Jaguar hopes that the number will keep on improving.
The Jaguar F-Type V6S at Rs. 1.37 crore and the range topping V8S at Rs.1.61 Crore.(Prices ex-showroom Mumbai, pre-Octroi)
