Six limited-edition matched pairs of restored 3.8-litre E-types pay homage to the original 1961 Geneva launch model.
On 15th March 2021, the Jaguar E-type will celebrate its 60th birthday. So, to celebrate the occasion, Jaguar Classic will come up with six limited-edition matched pairs of restored 3.8-litre E-types inspired by the ‘9600 HP’ and ‘77 RW’, which Jaguar used for the E-Type's 1961 Geneva Motor Show launch.
As of now, the first pair has been unveiled, and each pair will be referred to as the E-type 60 Collection. The cars will also be sold in pairs only (one coupé & one roadster), meaning just six collectors across the globe stand a chance to get their hands on them.
While the 9600 HP version has been used as the base to create the six fixed-head coupés finished in bespoke 'Flat Out Grey' paintwork, with smooth black leather interior, the 77 RW version serves as the inspiration for the six roadsters, which feature yet more bespoke 'Drop Everything Green' paintwork, complemented by a suede green leather interior. All twelve cars will also feature tribute details, which hark back to the launch car.
Apart from the bespoke paint colours, inspired by the original colours of the 1961 launch models, the E-type 60 Collection cars also get a bespoke commemorative E-type 60 logo on the bonnet, fuel cap, chassis plate, and clock face in the tachometer, along with a custom-engraved centre console by artist King Nerd, highlighting the drive route from Coventry to Geneva of the original cars.
In terms of changes made to the drivetrain and additional features, each 265bhp 3.8-litre inline-six Jaguar XK engine has been mated to a specially-developed close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox, which features synchromesh on all ratios, helical cut gears, and a reinforced cast aluminium casing for better reliability, along with a new stainless steel exhaust system, electronic ignition, and an improved radiator (with an electric cooling fan) for better cooling. Each car also comes with the Jaguar Classic Infotainment System, which offers features like satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. All these additions have been made to enhance the cars' everyday usability.
The aforementioned six customers of the Jaguar E-type 60 Collection will also get a chance to drive their cars from Coventry to Geneva to create a memorable experience for them.
