It may or may not be an EV. But what we do know is that it will debut Skoda's new design language this year, dubbed 'Modern Solid'.
Skoda recently held its annual press conference and while most of it was about the company's financial performance over the past fiscal, there were some vague but juicy bits in it about the brand's new and upcoming design language, called the 'Modern Solid'. Now, while no specific details of this were revealed during the press conference, the Czech brand did release a teaser image that shows an all-new mid-size SUV (blurred out at this point in time). With no other product-based references other than the teaser image, Skoda says the new design language will be unveiled in the second half of 2022. So we'll get to know more about it only then.
In the meantime, we can speculate whether this new SUV will be an EV or an ICE-powered model. Or, in fact, it could also be a Concept that may or may not spawn a production-spec model. Judging by its proportions, it looks like a model likely to be positioned below the full-size Kodiaq and the Enyaq EV. So, perhaps a model the size of the mid-size Karoq. But based on the design elements seen in the teaser, it's hard to dismiss the possibility of it being an EV.
According to the list of global automotive events slated to take place this year, the 2022 Paris Motor Show is scheduled for mid-October. So, perhaps, Skoda might officially take the wraps off this mysterious new model then. But until then, let's hope Skoda reveals some more specifics in the meantime.
