Infiniti will reveal its electric performance concept vehicle at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
For this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Infiniti will bring to the fore its new performance concept car. While the launch of an 'electric' concept seems to be in line with Infiniti's global plans for electrification, this is the first project to have been executed under the direction of Karim Habib, Infiniti's new executive design director. The initial teaser image hints at a roadster-like design with a single-seat configuration and a BAC Mono-like triangular air intake right above the driver's head. Also, the apparent shadows hint at a sharp and futuristic design, a trait generally associated with all concept creations.
Earlier, Infiniti had revealed the Prototype 9 – a retro e-roadster inspired by the open-wheel Grand Prix cars of the 1940s – at Pebble Beach in 2017. While the design of the Prototype 9 concept pays homage to the past, the new car certainly reflects on the company's future design philosophy. The continuation of an electrified performance theme for its upcoming range of vehicles highlights Infiniti's announcement in January 2018 that it would go electric from 2021.
On sharing his opinion about the new concept car, Karim Habib said, 'Our new concept provides clues to where the Infiniti brand is heading. For us, electrification means performance – our electrified cars will be powerful, efficient, and fun to drive, and the new concept is a physical representation of our electrified performance future.' Infiniti will pull the wraps off this new car on 23 August 2018.
