India-made Renault Triber MPV Gets 2-Star Crash Test Safety Rating from GNCAP: Watch Video
In the Global NCAP's crash test report, the Renault Triber's body structure was deemed unstable, suggesting that occupant safety in the event of a collision is compromised.
The India-made Renault Triber, targeted for African markets, underwent safety crash testing conducted by the Global New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP). Although Triber received a 4-star crash test rating in 2021, it scored only two stars under new rules and regulations. Due to insufficient chest protection for the driver and passenger in frontal and side-impact testing, it was penalised points. The Triber got 22.29 out of 34 points for Adult Occupant Protection (AOP).
Furthermore, the car received 19.99 out of 49 points for Child Occupant Protection (COP) since it lacked ISOFIX anchorages. During a forward crash, the head of the 3-year-old dummy was left exposed, and its neck and chest were not sufficiently protected. The 18-month-old child seat, mounted rearward-facing with the adult belt, successfully prevented head exposure after a frontal crash, providing complete protection. Here's the video.
The Triber has two front airbags as standard equipment, and it hasn't been subjected to a side pole impact test because it doesn't have side airbags. In the crash test report, the Triber's body structure was deemed unstable, suggesting that occupant safety in the event of a collision is compromised.

Renault Triber MPV: Safety Suite and Powertrain
As mentioned, the car lacks several standard safety equipment across its variant lineup such as six airbags, ISOFIX anchorages, and three-point seatbelts for every seat. However, the safety features that do come as standard comprise traction control, hill-start assist, electronic stability program (ESP), rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, and seat belt reminders for all passengers. Considering that the top-spec variants have four airbags, the model tested appears to be a base variant with two airbags.
Under the hood, the MPV has a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder unit, producing 71bhp of maximum power and 96Nm of peak torque. This engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and a five-speed easy-R AMT.
Renault Triber MPV: Price Range
The ex-showroom pricing of the Renault Triber ranges from Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 8.97 lakh. It is a seven-seater alternative for popular products such as the Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Tiago, and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. However, the Triber currently has no direct rival.
Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Scores 1-Star Safety Rating
The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga was also a part of the latest round of crash tests alongside the Triber, under the GNCAP's 'Safer Cars for Africa' initiative. The MPV has received a 1-star safety rating. It comes with an electronic stability control (ESC), seatbelt reminder, dual front airbags, and a seatbelt pre-tensioner with a load limiter. In the back row, ISOFIX child seat anchorages are also included.
For Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), the Ertiga received 23.63 points, while for Child Occupant Protection, it got 19.40 points. According to the results, the driver's and passenger's head and neck were well protected. The bodyshell and footwell were deemed unstable and unable to bear further loads.
