Based on the V90 estate, this Cross Country iteration gets a higher ground clearance and an all-wheel drive system
Completing its 90-series line-up, Volvo has pulled the wraps off its upcoming V90 Cross Country (CC) in Zurich. At the official unveil, Volvo has also announced that its flagship Cross Country model will make it to Indian shores next year. Following the XC90 and the S90, this is the third car to be based on Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA).
Although the silhouette looks exactly identical to the standard Volvo V90, this Cross Country version has some functional changes. It will come fitted with specially made tyres that offer a comfortable ride and enhanced grip even when driven off-road or over uneven surfaces. Other changes on the V90 CC include a wider front and rear track, and an increased ground clearance of 65mm over the standard V90 model. Volvo has put the V90 CC through extreme test conditions from temperatures of -40 degrees in Sweden right up to the scorching heat of the Arizona desert.
With regards to interior, the V90 CC will be identical to the standard model. It gets a sport looking all-black dash with a massive touchscreen infotainment in the centre just like the XC90. Being a Volvo, it will come with the most advanced safety package and new age connectivity solutions like Apple CarPlay. Other features include, all-wheel drive system as standard, front/rear skid plates, body cladding around the perimeter, cruise control, navigation and more. Like all other Cross Country models, this one too won’t get the entire range of engine options that the standard model comes with.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country brings a surprising and intriguing combination of a strong, powerful exterior and a luxurious, Scandinavian interior. It will continue the genuine tradition of the Volvo Cross Country with a new recipe: the blend of powerful off-road capability in a most elegant, sophisticated, tailored wagon suit,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design at Volvo Cars.
The Volvo V90 Cross Country will go on sale in the UK market later this year with deliveries expected to commence in early 2017. It should make it to Indian shores by mid-2017. Expect it to be priced around Rs 60-65 lakh. In the interim, Volvo will also bring in the S90 sedan to Indian shores within the next few months.
