Citroen made its India debut with the launch of the C5 Aircross in the D-segment. Now, the manufacturer plans on targeting the popular sub-4-metre compact SUV space with the new C3.
Citroen will globally unveil the 2022 C3 compact SUV on September 16, 2021. The first glimpse of the updated model will be offered via the digital medium, and the new compact SUV will be showcased in the flesh at a later stage. Online reports suggest that PSA is positive on locally producing the new compact SUV, as it will allow the brand to price it aggressively. Post its global unveil next month, the Citroen C3 will most likely be launched in Q1 of 2022. The new C3 is based on the CMP platform, borrowed from Jeep – both the brands function under the Stellantis group.
The 2022 C3 will be the brand’s first mass-market car in India, which will compete in a segment that's already occupied by the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.
Pictures of the outgoing Citroen C3 and the C3 Aircross that are on sale in the international market are used for reference.
Citroen will make the C3 a sub-4-metre SUV to reap the benefits of tax exemptions. The engine is likely to be a 1.2-litre petrol unit, mated to a five-speed manual transmission. There is a high probability of Citroen offering an optional automatic transmission. It's too soon to confirm if Citroen will offer a diesel mill with its new compact SUV.
The design language and styling of the C3 is heavily inspired by the larger C5 Aircross, which is on sale in India. Expect the new SUV to have body cladding all around, just like the C5 Aircross. Citroen will also offer the C3 in a dual-tone colour scheme. More details on the new SUV from the French carmaker are likely to arrive next month. So, stay tuned.
