Build Your Dreams (BYD), a major manufacturer of electric vehicles in China unveiled the all-new Atto 3 SUV for the 2024 model year. It has received minor improvements over the previous generation such as a new infotainment system, fresh aesthetic elements, and a few additional features. That being said, the overall design language stays the same. Notably, the car has not been mechanically altered. The BYD model comes equipped with a 49.9kWh blade battery that can cover 345-kilometre on a single charge. The motor is good enough to put out 310Nm of torque and 201bhp of maximum power. The SUV is also driven by a bigger 60.5kWh pack, which is stated to have a 420-kilometre (WLTP) range on a single charge in foreign markets; however, the India-spec version boasts an ARAI-certified range of 521 km. Read on to learn more about what's new with the revamped Atto 3.
2024 BYD Atto 3: Design and Interior Updates
The all-new Atto 3 now has a fresh Cosmos Black paint job, giving the SUV a more upscale appearance. Furthermore, the D-pillar insert and the chrome window surrounds on the model receive a new gloss black treatment. The 'BYD' emblem has replaced the entire Build Your Dreams badge on the tailgate. Along with new 18-inch alloy wheels, the electric model has gained bigger 235/50 R18 tyres compared to the previous 215/55 R18 ones. This modification was made as buyers in foreign countries complained about the rubber's poor grip.
While the interior layout of the new-generation Atto 3 is unchanged, a new infotainment panel is the most significant update. Compared to the current version's 12.8-inch touchscreen unit, the 2024 model incorporates a larger 15.6-inch screen from the new Seal EV. The screen's rotating functionality keeps it in both landscape and portrait orientations. On top of that, a new dark blue and black interior theme lends a modern appearance to the car.
Further software upgrades from the firm constitute the 'Intelligent Start' feature, which enables the driver to start the vehicle by pressing the brake pedal. In addition, the new infotainment system has a web browser, karaoke functionality, support for Amazon Music, and a BYD app store. The enhancements also come in the form of a more robust sunroof cover, extensive speech recognition software, quieter navigation, proximity alarm alerts, and a new sound for the anti-theft alarm. The ambient lighting within is connected to the Spotify music that is playing.
2024 BYD Atto 3: India Launch
As far as the Indian market is concerned, the Atto 3 is already available for purchase here, and later this year, the update is probably coming our way as well. However, the maker has not yet shared any official information on the matter. In terms of price, the current generation of the SUV is priced at Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
BYD Seal Crosses 200 Bookings in India
Another important development from the automaker concerns the Seal EV. The brand recently announced that it has topped 200 bookings in India. On February 28, the reservations for the sedan were opened for a token amount of Rs 1.25 lakh. Following this, the car went on sale in the domestic market on March 05 for an ex-showroom price of Rs 41 lakh. Notably, this BYD model is more affordable than several rival vehicles, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 (Rs 46.05 lakh) and the Kia EV6 (Rs 60.95 lakh). All prices are ex-showroom. The four-door model comes in three variants: the entry-level Dynamic, the mid-level Premium, and the higher-spec Performance.
Coming to the technical details, the Seal is equipped with two battery packs (61.4kWh and 82.5kWh) and is built on BYD's e-Platform 3.0. The smaller 61.44kWh battery powers the rear wheels of the base Dynamic variant. With 510-kilometre range, it generates 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. On the other hand, the bigger 82.56kWh battery drives the Premium variant's rear wheels while producing 308bhp and 360Nm of torque. In the series, the Premium model has the longest range, at 650-kilometre. Lastly, the all-wheel drive top-spec Performance model includes two electric motors (front and rear). It does, however, have the same bigger battery pack as the mid-spec model. With a claimed range of 580-kilometre, it puts out 523bhp and 670Nm.
