Lexus has updated its ES sedan with a few exterior changes and a few interior tweaks. It will launch the new ES sedan in India sometime in the future via the local assembly route, just like the current ES 300h on sale.
Lexus released a number of teasers for its upcoming ES sedan facelift in the past week. And now, it has put an end to all rumours and speculations by taking the wraps off the 2021 ES Sedan. The updated sedan sports minor changes to the exterior, interiors, and mechanicals. The new ES model will first go on sale in the North American markets and will be launched in India as the MY22 (2022 model year) by the end of this year.
Speaking of updates, the exterior now gets a restyled front grille. The ‘L’ from the company’s logo gives the grille a cascading effect. The headlamp now houses smaller projector units and gets a slimmer design than that of the predecessor. The headlamps feature BladeScan AHS (Adaptive High-beam System), which has been updated for this year.
The new car gets 17-inch wheels as standard and should the owner wish, he/she can upgrade to a set of 18-inch. The top of the line F Sport variant – not considered for India – gets a set of 19-inch alloy wheels with a gloss black finish.
The cabin now gets a new infotainment system, which is now 100mm closer to the driver and has a 5-degree tilt for better readability than that of the previous model. The infotainment system now uses glass for improved touch-feel and operability. The interior ornaments now feature Walnut material and the (optional) newly developed colours of Sumi Black and Dark Brown. While the rest of the interior now get a new hazel finish and a newly developed brown, grayish-tone Mauve.
The updated electronic package includes Safety System+ 2.5 suite of driver-assistance features. The jump from 2.0 to 2.5 has been made by including a pedestrian and cyclist detection system, along with Intersection Turning Assist and Curve Speed Reduction system.
The mechanical changes include a reworked braking mechanism and a tweaked suspension system, which is now more rigid and offers a confident drive. However, we shall reserve our judgment on the practicality of the reworked mechanicals until we drive the updated Lexus ES sedan in the 300h form upon its launch in India.
