The contenders for the overall, premium, and green car categories have been revealed, sparking excitement for the final results. The nominees and winners are chosen by a panel of seasoned automotive experts from leading publications, including ours, who carefully evaluate each model on key factors such as price, fuel efficiency, design, comfort, safety, performance, practicality, technical innovation, and value for money. For 2025, the jury has unveiled the nominees across various ICOTY categories, and we’ve compiled the list of contenders vying for the Green Car of the Year title. These eco-friendly nominees are a mix of SUVs and sedans, highlighting the growing diversity of sustainable options in the market.

ICOTY 2025 Green Car Contenders: Key Specifications
BYD Seal
The BYD Seal electric sedan offers three variants with varying battery capacities and power outputs. The base Dynamic model uses a 61.4 kWh battery to deliver 201bhp and 310Nm, with a range of 510 km. The Premium model upgrades to an 82.5 kWh battery, producing 308bhp and 360Nm, and offering a range of 650 kilometres, which is the longest in the lineup.
BMW i5
The BMW i5 M60, an all-electric performance sedan, has arrived in India as a fully imported model. Powered by an 81.2 kWh battery pack, it offers a WLTP-claimed range of up to 516 kilometres. Its all-wheel-drive dual-motor setup delivers 593bhp and 795Nm of torque, propelling the car from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.

The top-spec Performance model boasts dual motors, all-wheel drive, 523bhp, 670Nm, and a range of 580 kilometres.
Mercedes-Benz EQS
The EQS SUV is powered by a 122kWh lithium-ion battery. The 580 4Matic version features two electric motors, one on each axle, providing all-wheel drive with a combined output of 536bhp and 858Nm of torque. It can reach a top speed of 210km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds. The EQS 580 4Matic offers an impressive range of 809 kilometres on a single charge, according to ARAI.
Mercedes-Maybach EQS
The first-ever electric Maybach, the EQS 680, is available in a single, fully loaded trim. It offers a range of up to 611 kilometres (WLTP) on a single charge. The SUV is powered has a 122kWh battery and two permanent synchronous motors, one on each axle, making it a 4x4 vehicle. With 649bhp and 950Nm, the EQS 680 delivers impressive performance, accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds—0.2 seconds faster than the EQS 580. The SUV also has a top speed of 210km/h.
MG Windsor
The MG EV comes with a 38kWh lithium-ion battery and a front-axle permanent magnet synchronous motor. This setup delivers a maximum power output of 134bhp and peak torque of 200Nm, enabling a range of up to 331 kilometres on a single charge. The SUV also features four driving modes—Eco, Eco+, Normal, and Sport.
Mini Countryman EV
The Countryman EV features a front-mounted electric motor that drives the rear wheels, powered by a 66.45kWh battery pack. This configuration delivers 204bhp and 250Nm, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 8.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 170km/h. The WLTP-certified range stands at 462 kilometres on a single charge.
Tata Curvv EV
The Curvv has a liquid-cooled Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMS) and two battery configurations: 45kWh and 55kWh. The 45kWh battery produces 148bhp and 215Nm, and a range of 502 kilometres. The 55kWh battery, on the other hand, delivers 165bhp and 215, and a range of 585 kilometres.
BYD e MAX 7
The BYD car offers two battery options: 55.4kWh and 71.8kWh. The smaller battery delivers 160bhp, while the larger one produces 201bhp. However, the torque for both remains the same at 310Nm. The 55.4 kWh battery provides a range of 420 kilometres, while the 71.8 kWh battery offers up to 530 kilometres on a single charge.
Tata Punch EV
The Tata Punch EV comes with two battery options: a 25kWh and a 35kWh. The 25kWh battery offers 80.4bhp and 114Nm, and a range of around 315 kilometres.

The larger 35kWh battery boosts the power to 120.6bhp and 190Nm, extending the range to 421 kilometres.
