IAA Mobility 2023: Build Your Dreams, the Chinese manufacturer of new energy vehicles, has showcased its new D-segment SUV at the ongoing IAA Mobility 2023 in Munich, Germany. Dubbed the Seal U, the SUV is based on the Seal electric sedan, however, it is slightly taller and wider measuring 4,785mm in length and 1,890mm in width (2,085mm with mirrors unfolded), while the Seal U's height stands at 1,668mm. The BYD Seal U will go on sale in the UK, with the car offering plug-in hybrid and battery-electric powertrains, while these powertrains are already available in the Chinese market. Known as the BYD Song Plus Champion Edition in China, the Seal U is claimed to be a combination of stylish aesthetics and high-tech intelligent experiences with high levels of safety, comfort, and practicality.
In addition, two cobalt-free Blade batteries are also offered with the Seal U. The all-electric BYD Seal U will be equipped with a choice of 71.8kWh as well as 87kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries.

BYD Seal U: Range, Charging Capabilities
With the BYD Blade battery and 215bhp Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor, the BYD Seal U yields a WLTP combined range of up to 500 kilometres. While technical specifications and charging capabilities are to look out for, one can anticipate that the Seal U, which uses the e-Platform 3.0, will support 150kW DC fast charging that will enable owners to charge the battery from 30 to 80 per cent in under 30 minutes. This is on par with BYD Seal U models sold in the home country.
BYD Seal U: Variants
According to some industry reports, the UK-spec Seal U electric vehicle is available in two variants - Comfort and Design. With an electric motor, the Comfort delivers 204bhp and 310Nm of peak torque, while the Design cranks out 218bhp and 310Nm. The option of a hybrid powertrain is also on the cards, but it is expected to be offered at a later date.
BYD Seal U: Interior, Features
Interior-wise, the BYD Seal U features premium upholstery, soft-touch surfaces, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen like the Seal sedan, and a digital instrument display. Information related to all this and more is anticipated to be revealed closer to the launch date.
On offer are also spacious storage compartments, with 60:40-split rear seats allowing you to increase the 552-litre boot to a 1,440-litre boot when both seats are folded flat. Moreover, the car features a wheelbase of 2,765mm. With this clever storage space, the car is said to offer a refined ride for the whole family.
BYD Seal U: Launch Details, Price, and More
The new BYD Seal U is scheduled to be launched in the international market sometime in 2024. In terms of pricing, expect the Seal U to be priced slightly more than the sedan counterpart.
