Hyundai’s Verna mid-size sedan has made a comeback in its BS6 avatar, with a brand new set of engines and more equipment and connectivity features, thanks to the company’s Blue Link system.
Hyundai India has silently launched the updated 2020 Verna by listing the new car on its website, complete with its variant wise prices and brochure. Considering that with this update the Verna has moved into the BS6 era, its earlier range of BS4 1.6-litre and 1.4-litre petrol and diesel engines have been junked in favour of the company’s brand new 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines – like the new Creta. And like the Creta, the new Verna's 1.5-litre petrol model gets the option of a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed CVT automatic, while the 1.5-litre diesel model is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. But unlike the Creta, which gets a 1.4 GDi petrol engine option, the Verna as a lighter car makes do with the Venue’s 1.0-litre GDI turbocharged engine, complete with the 7-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox.
Here’s a look at the engine and gearbox options for the new Verna.
Engine | Capacity | Power | Torque | Transmission |
1.5 MPi Naturally Aspirated Petrol | 1,497cc | 113bhp | 144Nm | 6MT/6AT |
1.5 U2 Turbocharged Diesel | 1,493cc | 113bhp | 250Nm | 6MT/6AT |
1.0 Kappa Turbo GDi Petrol | 998cc | 118bhp | 171Nm | 7DCT |
New engines aside, the Verna has been given a complete facelift, which has given the car new front and rear bumpers, LED headlamps, tail lamps, new front grille (gloss black for the 1.0-litre model), twin tip tailpipe finishes for the 1.0-litre model, and new alloy wheels. Keeping up with the new exterior is the new interior, with a revised dashboard and all-black upholstery featuring red stitching for the 1.0-litre turbocharged model.
New feature highlights for the car include an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with an Arkamys sounds system, a digital instrument cluster, wireless phone charging, voice commands hands-free tailgate opening, and remote engine start/stop and air-con operation for automatic transmission equipped cars. The 1.0-litre model, in addition, gets front parking sensors.
The rest of the equipment list and safety features for the car remain the same as earlier.
