Hyundai has just taken the wraps off of its mid-engined Veloster concept in South Korea last month at the Busan International Motor Show, and it looks rather interesting to say the least. The concept is called the Veloster Midship and besides its funky vinyl design on the exterior and the massive rear spoiler, the Veloster concept's most intriguing feature is the use of a mid-mounted turbocharged 2.0-litre Theta GDI engine generating 300bhp. The car also features a lightweight aluminium suspension, and a high-rigidity chassis.
The engine is located behind the occupants and within the wheelbase, offering an ideal weight distribution and handling balance through corners. However fascinating this car might be, Hyundai has clearly stated that the Midship has been created for the sole purpose to explore possibilities for the Veloster chassis. The car was developed by Hyundai Motor Company's High Performance Team - who also developed the i20 WRC in its initial form - and overseen by Mr Im Sebin and Mr Hwang Injin, the two-seater Midship concept is fully driveable and boasts the latest Hyundai performance technologies.
