Hyundai expands its SUV range with the launch of the third-generation Tucson in India.

After the successful launch of the Elantra a few months ago, Hyundai India has added another new vehicle to its line-up in the shape of the Tucson. Priced between Rs 18.99 lakh and Rs 24.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Tucson slots in between the hugely popular Creta and the flagship Santa Fe in Hyundai’s SUV range for India.

The first-gen Tucson went on sale in our market in 2005 and was discontinued in 2010, while the second-gen Tucson never came to India. The newly launched version is the third iteration of the SUV, and marks a huge leap over the previous models. On the outside, it sports Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, highlighted by a large hexagonal grille and swept-back headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps. Around the side, it comes with sporty diamond cut alloy wheels while the taut and pronounced design lines impart a rugged as well as premium look to the SUV. The rear section has hints of the smaller Creta with similar looking tail-lamps and boot lid.

As we’ve come to expect from new Hyundais, the interior of the Tucson also gets an upmarket cabin with high levels of fit and finish along with a raft of features and equipment. The all-black dashboard layout is similar to the Elantra while it also gets a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Other features include, hands-free powered tailgate, auto folding ORVMs with heated function, auto defogger, smart key and button start, tilt & telescopic steering, cooled glove box, rear air-con vents and more.

The Tucson gets petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol motor is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit developing 152bhp and 192Nm of peak torque. The diesel is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo mill that is rated at 182bhp and 400Nm. Both the engines can be had with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The Hyundai Tucson is available in 5 trim levels. Here’s the pricing (ex-showroom Delhi):

Petrol:

2WD MT - Rs 18.99 lakh

2WD AT GL - Rs 21.79 lakh

Diesel:

2WD MT - Rs 21.59 lakh

2WD AT GL - Rs 23.48 lakh

2WD AT GLS - Rs 24. 99 lakh
