In his new role Mr. Albert Biermann will be responsible for developing performance cars and improving product quality at Hyundai Motor Company’s research centre in South Korea.
Hyundai Motor has successfully managed to rope in Albert Biermann, Vice President of BMW’s M badged performance cars. At Hyundai, he will be responsible for developing performance cars and improving product quality. He will start working in his role of Hyundai’s Executive Vice President in April at Hyundai’s research centre near Seoul, South Korea.
This development also means that Mr. Biermann will now be the second highest foreign executive at Hyundai after design chief Mr. Peter Schreyer who was previously working for Audi AG. It also is a booster for Hyundai as it is trying to uplift its image that has been damaged over the past two years by the recall of millions of cars and the $ 300 million in penalty Hyundai had to pay to the U.S. government for making wrong promises on the fuel efficiencies of their cars.
“We will have him in charge of developing high-performing vehicles and leading [research efforts on] performance, safety, durability, noise oscillation and system development,” Hyundai said in a statement released on Monday in Seoul.
Biermann, who had been with BMW for over 30 years, will be in charge of testing and developing performance cars at the research centre starting from April, Hyundai-Kia added. He will also be the advisor on product strategy and marketing for the European market.
This move is also significant as Hyundai’s 60 percent of revenue comes from selling large and mid-size cars in their home market, where they are feeling threatened because of growing number of imports from outside makers like BMW.
