There is no doubt that performance electric cars have powerful motors with fast torque delivery, allowing for swift acceleration. Electrics, however, fall short in two crucial aspects compared to their edgy internal-combustion versions: the mechanical response that conveys a sensation of speed and the roar of an engine's micro-explosions. With the 2024 Ioniq 5 N, Hyundai's N tuning and performance division aims to correct that. In terms of electric vehicles, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has surpassed many people's predictions. For context, the Ioniq 5 N is a high-performance version of the loniq, and is now undergoing testing. The Nurburgring racetrack, regarded as one of the world's most challenging, is where Hyundai Motor Company is testing the EV.

Commenting on the occasion, Till Wartenberg, Vice President and Head of N Brand & Motorsport at Hyundai Motor Company, said, “The Nürburgring is where every N model is honed to the Nth degree, so our first high-performance, all-electric N model must also prove itself here. Ioniq 5 N just completed its 10,000 km durability test on the Nordschleife, which is an important milestone that proves the vehicle’s high endurance and racetrack capability. And yet, we just began our second 10,000 km test to push IONIQ 5 N's limits.” Let's take a look at the key details of the soon-to-debut Ioniq 5 N.
Ioniq 5 N: Platform
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will make its premiere on a worldwide scale with a dedicated N stand and hill climb demonstrations. The event is slated to take place on July 13. According to Hyundai, the development of the loniq 5 N was based on the three pillars of Corner Rascal, Racetrack Capability, and Everyday Sportscar. In addition to technical improvements, the Ioniq 5 N has aesthetic improvements over the Ioniq 5.
The loniq 5 N and the Kia EV6 have the same E-GMP platform. The loniq 5 N's heat management is receiving extra attention from its maker. With N-specific effective radiator packing, an improved motor oil cooler, and a battery chiller, the cooling surface is increased. New heat management techniques like N Battery Preconditioning and N Race are also available.

Ioniq 5 N: Multiple Modes
The battery cells' temperature is pre-set to be at their most power-efficient level via N Battery Preconditioning. To accommodate various performance driving circumstances, the battery preconditioning function is divided into two modes: "Drag" mode and "Track." In "Drag" mode, the battery temperature is adjusted to its ideal level for instantaneous utilisation of maximum power, while in "Track" mode, the battery temperature is set to its ideal level for longer lap times.
With a focus on "Sprint" or "Endurance" driving, N Race allows users greater direct control over the energy consumption of their vehicles. The default setting for the Ioniq 5 N puts the driver's need for full power on demand first. The Ioniq 5 N's range on the racetrack is maximised by the Endurance' option. This is accomplished by reducing sharp power spikes, which reduce the rise in body temperature and boost endurance.
The motorsport-inspired strategy used by the N brand directly led to the development of N Battery Preconditioning and N Race. This aids drivers in planning their energy usage to optimise efficiency or longevity. The Ioniq 5 N provides this sort of configuration adjustment with the comfort of a few buttons pushes when it would often need a team of mechanics and equipment.
