Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV Crosses 500 Units Sales Mark in India in 5 Months

Built on the Electric-Global Modular Platform, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV measures 4,635 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width & 1,625 mm in height and offers a remarkable 3,000mm wheelbase, which translates into a large, spacious cabin for passengers.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5, an all-electric SUV, has surpassed the 500 units sales mark in India, Hyundai Motor Company announced at the launch of the new Hyundai Exter micro-SUV. The Ioniq 5 is Hyundai's second fully electric vehicle in India after the Kona EV and is technically identical to the Kia EV 6 that is already on sale in the Indian market. Hyundai launched the much-anticipated Ioniq 5 EV crossover in India at the 2023 Auto Expo, and nearly three months after the car was launched, the carmaker commenced the deliveries for the Ioniq 5. Speaking of its pricing, the Ioniq 5 is available in the country at Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It is worth noting that the loniq 5 is locally assembled in India, as opposed to the Kia EV6.

According to Hyundai, the E-GMP architecture offers improved driving dynamics, improved cornering performance, and high-speed stability. Besides, the electric vehicle has a remarkable 3,000mm wheelbase, which translates into a large, spacious cabin for passengers.

The electric SUV features a contemporary design with clean lines and contours, distinctive parametric pixel LED headlights, and a seamless clamshell hood. When viewed from the side, the car is defined by Z-shaped character lines, flush door handles, and 20-inch alloy wheels with a parametric pixel design for improved aerodynamics. The parametric pixel design is continued at the back with the LED tail lamps, while a sporty touch is provided by a rear spoiler with LED high-mount stop lamp. The Kia EV6's technical cousin can be had in 3 exterior colour options - Gravity Gold Matte, Optic White, and Midnight Black Pearl.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV: Powertrain

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV comes equipped with a 72.6kWh battery and a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a power output of 214bhp and torque of 350Nm. The manufacturer claims that the Ioniq 5 EV has an ARAI-certified range of 631 kilometres on a single charge. The vehicle can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in just 18 minutes, using a 350 kW DC fast charger; however, only a few of these chargers are available across India. Additionally, the Ioniq 5 also includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, which allows the car to deliver up to 3.6kW of power output.

Inside, the Ioniq 5 gets dark pebble grey interiors and eco-processed leather seat upholstery. The dashboard and door have soft-touch materials, while the armrest, seat cushions, and steering wheel bear a pixel design. On the feature front, the electric vehicle includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, a digital instrument cluster, 6 airbags, disc brakes, remote door lock/unlock, level 2 ADAS technology, and more. The flat floor, thin cockpit design, sliding centre console, and sliding glove box give it a futuristic appearance.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 comes with a 3-year standard warranty and an optional 5-year/140,000-kilometre extended warranty.  The battery has an 8-year/160,000-kilometre warranty. In terms of market rivalry, it competes with the Kia EV6, the Volvo XC40 Recharge, the Mini Cooper SE, etc.

In June 2023, the carmaker sold a total of 65,601 units, compared to 62,351 units at the same time last year, representing a YoY growth of 5.21%. Domestically, Hyundai sold 50,001 vehicles in India, as opposed to 49,001 during the same month in 2022, denoting a marginal rise of 2.04%. In terms of exports, the automaker recorded growth as well, with 15,600 units shipped in June 2023, which provided a gain of 16.85% over 13,350 units dispatched in the same month in 2022. According to Hyundai, the deliveries above 50,000 units in the previous month depicted strong customer satisfaction.
