Hyundai Motor India officially launched the brand-new Ioniq 5 EV at the 16th edition of the Auto Expo. Bookings for the electric SUV began in December last year, and as of now, the auto manufacturer has received over 650 bookings for the Ioniq 5. According to Hyundai, the deliveries of the car will begin towards the end of next month. The Ioniq 5 e-SUV has an introductory price tag of Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom) and has a claimed range of 631km per charge. This pricing was only available for the first 500 customers. Interested customers can place online bookings for the model on the company's official website for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh. Hyundai intends to offer a wide range of electric vehicles, from small EVs to large SUVs, built on a variety of platforms. These platforms may be either ICE-derived electric vehicles or specifically designed EV skateboards to accommodate various price points. If the market expands quickly enough, the manufacturer may even consider building a dedicated EV factory.

Following the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Ioniq 5 EV is the company's second electric vehicle. The Ioniq 5 is the first of six battery electric vehicles (BEVs) that Hyundai plans to launch in India by 2028 with an investment of Rs 4,000 crore and is currently being made in India. The Ioniq 5 is additionally the first product to be built on the electric-global modular platform (E-GMP) developed by Hyundai Motor Group.
The electric SUV has a svelte and contemporary design with clean lines, as well as distinguishing parametric pixel LED headlamps and a seamless clamshell hood. The car has 20-inch alloy wheels with parametric pixel designs, which improve the aerodynamics of the car, as well as an active air flap for better aerodynamics and cooling of moving parts. It is available in Gravity Gold Matte, Optic White, and Midnight Black Pearl exterior colour options.
A 72.6kWh battery pack and a PMS motor mounted on the rear axle provide power for the Ioniq 5 EV. The motor produces 350Nm of peak torque and 214bhp of maximum power. The electric SUV has an ARAI-certified 631km range on a single charge. Speaking of fast charging, the Ioniq 5 can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger.
The Ioniq 5 has a wheelbase of 3,000mm and measures 4,635mm in length, 1,890mm in width, and 1,625mm in height. It has eco-processed seat upholstery, a magnetic dashboard, a sliding central console with 140mm of travel, and a sliding glove box. A 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch instrument cluster are standard. Level 2 ADAS is also available, with 21 features.

The Ioniq 5 comes standard with a 3-year/Unlimited-kilometre warranty from Hyundai. Customers may, however, also enjoy the benefits of a 5-year/140,000-kilometre extended warranty. The battery has an 8-year/160,000-kilometre warranty. Deliveries for the EV will begin next month. The Ioniq 5 competes with vehicles such as the Kia EV6, Volvo XC40 Recharge, Mini Cooper SE, and others.
