Hyundai Inster vs Tata Punch EV Spec Comparison: Price, Powertrain, Features and More

Hyundai's smallest EV (electric vehicle), the Inster, is an electric derivative of the ICE-powered Casper SUV available in Korea. Revealed recently at the 2024 Busan International Mobility Show, the Hyundai Inster is slightly larger than the 3,595mm-long Casper. It measures 3,825mm in length, 1,610mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, placing the vehicle close to the Tata Punch EV sold in India. It even gets more cabin room, which is liberated by the extended wheelbase of 180mm. However, it is still a small EV meant for city commutes.
The Inster will go on sale in Korea, Europe, the Middle East and the Asia Pacific. There is no word on Hyundai bringing this EV to the Indian market. If it plans to do so, the Inster will face competition from the Tata Punch EV and the Citroen eC3. Hyundai Inster vs Tata Punch EV: Size
The Hyundai Inster is the smaller one in almost all dimensions. At 3,825mm in length, 1,610mm in width, and 1,575mm in height, the Inster is 32mm smaller, 132mm narrower, and 53mm shorter than the Tata Punch EV. It carries a wheelbase that is stretched by 135mm to 2,580mm. Hyundai's Inster can be had with either 15-inch or 17-inch wheels, whereas Tata's EV gets 16-inch units. Hyundai Inster vs Tata Punch EV: Battery, Range
Overseas, the Hyundai Inster comes with two battery packs – 42kWh and 49kWh. The former yields a claimed range of over 300km, while the latter offers a range of up to 355km (with 15-inch wheels) on a single charge. Meanwhile, the Tata Punch EV gets 25kWh and 35kWh battery packs, having an MIDC range of 315km and 421km, respectively.
Both models get a single-motor setup. The standard variant of the Hyundai Inster is equipped with a 96bhp electric motor, while the long-range variant comes with a 113bhp electric motor. Meanwhile, the Tata Punch EV's permanent magnet synchronous motor makes 81bhp in medium-range and 120bhp in long-range variants.
Hyundai Inster vs Tata Punch EV: Charging Capabilities
The Hyundai Inster offers two charging options – a standard 16A AC charger and a 120kW DC fast charger. The AC charger is claimed to fully charge the battery in 4 hours for the base variant, and 4 hours and 35 minutes for the long-range variant. When using a 120kW DC fast charger, the vehicle takes 30 minutes to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent.
On the other hand, the Tata Punch EV is capable of AC charging up to 7.2kW, while the 50kW DC fast charger can charge the electric SUV from 10 to 80 per cent in a claimed time of 56 minutes. With a normal 15A charger, the mid-range variants can be charged from 10 to 100 per cent in 9.4 hours, while the long-range variants take 13.5 hours.
Hyundai Inster vs Tata Punch EV: Features
Features-wise, both vehicles get twin 10.25-inch screens (one for the infotainment and another for the instrumentation), a 360-degree camera, and automatic climate control. The Inster additionally offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) tech and ADAS.

Hyundai Inster vs Tata Punch EV: Price
Hyundai has yet to confirm whether the Inster will arrive here. If it does, the vehicle could be priced similarly to the Tata Punch EV (Rs 10.99 lakh–Rs 15.49 lakh). The prices are ex-showroom.
