Hyundai Motor Company introduced its Initium hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) concept at the ‘Clearly Committed’ event at Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang. This concept offers a glimpse of a new production FCEV that Hyundai plans to launch in the first half of next year. The term Initium, derived from Latin, signifies ‘beginning’ or ‘first’. This distinctive hydrogen fuel cell SUV concept also showcases the company's new design philosophy, referred to as ‘Art of Steel’.
Commenting on the occasion, SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai and Genesis Global Design said, 'Our challenge began from the manufacturing stage, where we pushed the formability of steel to the extreme to create a form of art. With Initium, we’ve crafted a more SUV-like design that is both solid and safe, reflecting our dedication to our customers through customer-centric design.'

The Initium boasts a strikingly futuristic design as a concept SUV, characterised by its angular shapes. Its styling draws parallels to other electric vehicle concepts from Hyundai, like the N Vision 74, and features similarities to the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 production models. The front includes rectangular split-style daytime running lights (DRLs) set into a black panel that stretches across the vehicle's width. The headlamps and taillamps are designed with four square-patterned blocks. A distinctive aspect of this vehicle is its coupe-like roofline, which sharply descends toward the tailgate. Additionally, it is equipped with 21-inch wheels, engineered by Hyundai to enhance aerodynamic efficiency.
While the interior of the Initium has not yet been unveiled, Hyundai promises it will offer “an impressive amount of interior space and versatility ideal for a family SUV.” The company also noted that the second-row seats will be able to recline, and the rear doors will feature a wide opening angle, enhancing the comfort of the concept.
