The Hyundai Exter is the newest player in the Micro SUV market. The model faces competition from a variety of vehicles, including the recently released Fronx by Maruti Suzuki. Hyundai offers the Exter with a choice of two engines: 1.2-litre Kappa Petrol and a 1.2-litre bi-fuel Kappa Petrol CNG. The former petrol motor generates 82bhp at 6,000rpm and 113.8Nm at 4,000rpm, whereas the latter CNG configuration delivers 68bhp and 95.2Nm. In contrast to the petrol motor's option of a five-speed manual or an AMT automated gearbox, the CNG model receives only a manual transmission.
The Fronx SUV initially was offered, with a choice of two engines: a 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine with 99bhp and 147.6Nm and a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with 89bhp and 113Nm. However, recently the carmaker introduced the S-CNG version of the SUV, offered across two variants - Sigma and Delta. The new Fronx S-CNG houses a 1.2-litre K-Series DualJet, Dual VVT petrol engine with a factory-installed CNG kit, which produces 98.5Nm of maximum torque and 76bhp of maximum power when mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Fronx SUV's appearance has a sizable hexagonal grille divided by a chrome bar, sleeker-looking LED headlights with DRLS, a front bumper with faux skid plates in a grey colour, and 16-inch precision-cut dual-tone alloy wheels. The Exter, on the other hand, has projector headlights, an H-shaped LED daytime running light, and a black mesh radiator grille up front. The SUV has diamond-cut alloy wheels and a black coating on the side. The back profile includes the integrated roof spoiler, a shark-fin antenna, a rear wiper, and H-shaped LED taillamps.
Inside, the Exter includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Hyundai's BlueLink-connected car technology, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charger, a digital instrument cluster, a voice-activated electric sunroof, cruise control, and more. Meanwhile, petrol automatic variants range from Rs 7.97 lakh to Rs 10.10 lakh. The Micro SUV is also available with a CNG powertrain, and versions with this unit are priced between Rs. 8.24 lakh and Rs. 8.97 lakh. All are ex-showroom figures.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx has five variants - Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. In India, the base Sigma model costs Rs 7.47 lakh, while the top-spec Alpha turbo version commands Rs 13.14 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG range from Rs 8.42 lakh for the entry-level Sigma model to Rs 9.28 lakh for the top-of-the-line Delta trim.
