Hyundai Exter SUV Safety Features Revealed, Will Get 6 Airbags Across all Variants

The top-end variants of the Hyundai Exter SUV will come equipped with over 40 advanced safety features that include auto headlamps, headlamp escort function, ISOFIX mounts, rear defogger, and rear parking camera.

The Hyundai Exter will be the latest in the line of the brand's SUVs to be launched in the Indian market, and it is expected to go on sale by the end of July or the beginning of August this year. In related news, the company has released an update for its latest Exter SUV. Consequently, all Exter variants – EX, S, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) connect – will come with 6 airbags as standard. The upcoming SUV will be, according to Hyundai Motor India, India's first sub-4 metre SUV to get 6 airbags as standard across trims. The mid-and top-spec variants will come with 26 safety features as standard, while the base E and S derivatives will offer these features as an option.

The top-end variants of the Exter SUV will be equipped with over 40 advanced safety features, which include auto headlamps, headlamp escort function, ISOFIX mounts, rear defogger, and rear parking camera. Hyundai has also revealed some of its first-in-segment features, such as electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM), hill assist control (HAC), dashcam with a dual camera, TPMS, and burglar alarm.

A few days ago, Hyundai updated its entire model line-up by adding a 3-point seatbelt and seatbelt reminder as standard safety features. As a part of the stricter rules for vehicle safety, all four-wheeler passenger vehicles will have to be equipped with these safety features. Keeping this in mind, the manufacturer has made a provision to offer a 3-point seatbelt, 6 airbags, seatbelt reminder (for all passengers), keyless entry, ABS with EBD, ESS, rear parking sensors, and burglar alarm as standard with the Hyundai Exter.

Hyundai Exter: Price, Competition

The Exter’s price announcement is expected to happen in the coming weeks, either by the end of July or the beginning of August this year. It is speculated that the new Exter will fall in the Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh price range. Once launched in the Indian market, the upcoming SUV will go up against the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite.

Hyundai Exter: Powertrain & Gearbox

Although the official power and torque numbers are yet to be revealed by the automaker, it is expected that the Exter will get a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, with 83bhp of power and 114Nm of torque. On offer will be a five-speed manual or an AMT transmission.

The Exter can also be had with a CNG engine option, which will be mated to a manual gearbox. In CNG mode, the SUV is expected to deliver a maximum power and torque output of 69bhp and 95.2Nm, respectively.

Hyundai Exter: Colours

The Hyundai Exter will be offered in six monotones and three dual-tone colour options, including an all-new Ranger Khaki, Atlas White, and Cosmic Blue.
