Honda will reportedly reveal a compact SUV at the Philippine International Motor Show scheduled for September 14- 18, 2016 in Hong Kong.

Honda is expected to reveal a compact SUV at the Philippine International Motor Show later this month which is reportedly bound for India as well.

The mini SUV will be based on the Honda HR-V. The vehicle will be developed at Honda’s research and development centre in Thailand and will be positioned as an entry level SUV to compete with the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and Mahindra TUV300.

Honda currently sells the Brio, Amaze, Jazz, City, Mobilio, BRV and the CR-V in India. The Japanese automaker currently has no offering in the country in the compact SUV segment that has seen major growth in India and also globally. Honda is expected to offer numerous creature comfort and safety features in the new car to make it competitive in the market and will also have a high ground clearance.

The compact SUV segment has seen major growth in India. The Vitara Brezza has become one the best selling cars in India with over 10,000 units sold in July, positioned as the sixth best selling car in the country. The Hyundai Creta sold just under 8,000 units while Ford push push around 5,000 units of the EcoSport from their showrooms in July. Offering a new vehicle in this segment might just prove to be Honda’s ticket for growth in India.
