Nearly a month after Maruti Suzuki introduced its fourth-generation Dzire sedan in India, Honda India brought out its all-new Amaze. With introductory prices starting at Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Honda Amaze gets an exterior similar to the City sedan and the Elevate SUV, as well as a minimalistic interior with the latest technology. The mechanical components remain the same as the predecessor though. In its third-generation avatar, the Amaze is a step up from the old Amaze, which is still available for purchase in the country, at an ex-showroom price of Rs 7.63 lakh (starting price). Here's a closer look at a comparison between the new Amaze and the second-generation model:

Honda Amaze - New vs Old: Engine, Mileage

Under the skin, almost everything is the same for the updated Amaze. The 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine still develops 89bhp at 6,000rpm and 110Nm of peak torque at 4,800rpm, turning the wheels through either a 5-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. That said, the engine now gets an updated fuel injection ECU.

Honda says the new sedan returns a fuel economy of 18.65km/l for the manual and 19.46km/l for the automatic version. The automatic variant is 1.16km/l more frugal than the previous version.

Moving to its design, the third-generation Amaze strays away too far from the previous-generation model, which has a crooked face with design cues borrowed from the Accord Hybrid. The new Amaze has a bold and upright stance with a larger grille, dual LED projector lamps, integrated LED Daytime Running Lamps, and a thicker chrome strip. The side profile sports new 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, as well as more flared wheel arches and sharp character lines. While the front fascia takes inspiration from the Elevate, the rear end takes cues from the City. The latter gets new red-finished, wraparound taillamps with different lighting elements. The front and rear bumpers have also been revised.

Honda Amaze - New vs Old: Interior, Features

Like the exterior, the interior of the new Honda Amaze draws styling cues from the Elevate SUV. It houses a semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7.0-inch MID, in addition to a multi-function steering wheel. The HVAC controls, two cupholders, and USB Type-C charging ports too have been derived from the SUV. Plus, there is an 8.0-inch free-standing touchscreen against the smaller 7.0-inch integrated infotainment system, as well as a dashboard panel with a textured finish. The previous model's dashboard features silver garnishes. Speaking of, the dual-tone black and beige interior theme continues to be on offer with the new version.

Cruise control, powered outside rearview mirrors, auto headlamps, and engine start/stop switch have been carried over from the predecessor.
