Maruti Suzuki is all set to erect its second manufacturing facility in India. The new unit at Hansalpur, Gujarat will start functioning from mid-2017 and can make up to 2,50,000 units annually.
Keeping in mind the ‘Make in India’ philosophy of the present government, the foundation stone of Maruti Suzuki’s new plant in Hansalpur, Gujarat was laid today by the state’s Chief Minister - Shrimati Anandiben Patel.
Maruti Suzuki also plans to set up two additional plant in the state of Gujarat with the first one among the three to start delivering results by mid-2017. The plant, that spreads over an area of 640 acres, has been made with an investment of approximately Rs. 3,000 crores and has a production capacity of 2,50,000 units annually.
This step is highly significant for the Japanese carmaker if it wants to realise its dream of selling two million cars in India sometime in the near future.
Along with the Chief Minister, the ceremony was attended by Mr. Takeshi Yagi, Ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. Rajnikant S Patel, Home Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Osamu Suzuki, Chairman & CEO Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, Mr. R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India and Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director, Maruti Suzuki India.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Osamu Suzuki said, “For the Suzuki group, the setting up of this new manufacturing facility in Gujarat is the start of a new era. Under the ‘Make in India’ program proposed by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, we will set up a state-of-the-art production plant here in Gujarat, with high focus on productivity and efficiency. We want to manufacture vehicles together with you, which we can provide for the domestic and global markets. Your support and cooperation will be greatly appreciated.”
