May come to India sometime next year as the Ford Figo Cross
With premium hatchback becoming more commonplace and compact SUVs not costing any less than Rs 10 lakh, there is space in the crossover segment. While Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki and Fiat have presence in this class, Ford has been absent from this space. Earlier this year, the American car maker showed interested in this category and has now showcased the Ka Trail at São Paulo. Ford sells the Ka in the Indian market as the Figo.
Like any other crossover, the Ka Trail comes with additional body kit which includes plastic cladding around the wheel arches, faux skid plates up front, gun metal 15-inch alloy wheels, new ORVM casings and door handles. To further distinguish it from the standard model, the Ka Trail also gets body graphics on the doors. On the inside, the Ka Trail gets part leather upholstery, contrast stitching, sport pedals and door sills. Internationally, the Ka Trail also comes with a raised suspension which will allow it to do a bit of trail riding.
Ford has previously shown interest in the crossover segment for India but there has been no official confirmation about its launch yet. If the Ka Trail does make it to Indian shores as the Figo Cross, expect it to come with the same engine options as its hatchback version. Needless to say, it will be priced higher than the hatchback. In the Indian market, it will go against the likes of the Hyundai i20 Active, Maruti Suzuki S-Cross and the Fiat Urban Cross.
