Ford released its sales figures today for the month of January and according to the numbers, Ford saw a decline of almost 15% in its total sales over last January.
In an otherwise good month for the automobile sector, Ford India reported a decline of 14.79% in its January sales. Ford sold 9,061 cars in India last month where it had sold 10,634 units last January.
Things didn’t quite change much in the domestic market as in January 2015 Ford sold 6,647 cars in India whereas in January 2014 it had sold 6,706 units. Exports fell marginally to 2,414 cars against 3,928 cars exported in January 2014.
Commenting on the recent numbers and a disappointing performance, Anurag Mehrotra, Vice President – Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford India said, “The rollback of excise duty concessions has further contributed to the prevailing low consumer sentiment.”
Ford has been criticised lately for not being able to cope with the demand and hence people turning to other carmakers.
Adding more to what needs to be done in order to boost the sales, Mehrotra said “We hope that the government will continue its pro- consumer, industry-friendly reform policy and introduce measures to boost demand in the upcoming budget.”
