It’s barely been a couple of weeks since Ford launched the EcoSport and surprised the living daylights out of everybody with its pricing. But, just when you thought everything was going fine, Ford comes out with news that it has recalled 972 units of the EcoSport diesel variant.
Ford found out, during routine check-ups, that there was a concern regarding the current positioning of its glow plug module. The glow plug essentially is a heating device which helps to start a diesel engine. Being an external component fitted to a diesel engine, it helps warm the engine's combustion chamber thus making sure that the fuel burns efficiently.
The glow plug on the EcoSport is located near the front bumper and this will now be removed and remounted to a more protected area within the engine bay.
Ford is already contacting the customers and the checks will be conducted at the nearest Ford dealership. Ford says that no accidents or injuries have been reported related to this issue and this is a proactive, voluntary recall action to ensure customers' safety and satisfaction.
This is the second major recall from Ford India. The American company had recalled close to 1.28 lakh units of the Figo and the Classic in August of 2012 for steering and rear suspension issues.
