Ford has slashed the prices of the EcoSport by up to Rs 1.13 lakh (diesel) and Rs 87,400 (petrol) to take on the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
The Ford EcoSport has received a massive price cut in view of the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza. The EcoSport range now starts at Rs 6.68 lakh for the base petrol variant and Rs 7.28 lakh for the base diesel variant. Prior to the price revisions, the EcoSport petrol range started from Rs 7.22 lakh while diesel variants were priced starting at Rs 8.41 lakh.
A few days ago, Maruti Suzuki went all guns blazing against its competition, especially Ford, when they launched the Vitara Brezza at prices starting from just Rs 6.99 lakh. Ford, however, decided to return the favour without any delay, hence, the quick revision in prices.
The Vitara Brezza is only available with a diesel engine, whereas, the EcoSport is available in a choice of three engine options including 2 petrol and a diesel engine. The EcoSport is also available with an automatic petrol whereas the Vitara Brezza can only be had with a manual gearbox.
While the Ford offers more options to the consumer, the Vitara Brezza wins back some points with its exhaustive feature list. Maruti Suzuki has loaded the Vitara Brezza decently – especially in terms of safety features - with the lower end variants getting driver airbag as standard; passenger airbag and ABS with EBD is optional across the range . While Ford does not offer safety equipment like ABS or airbags on lower variants of the EcoSport, its top-end Titanium + variant now comes across as a great value for money proposition. It comes with 6-airbags as opposed to the dual-airbags offered in the Vitara Brezza. In terms of creature comfort features it is closely matched with the top-end ZDi+ variant of the Vitara Brezza, too.
Ford’s move to slash the prices of the EcoSport is certainly going to help push sales of the EcoSport. The Vitara Brezza, on the other hand, has already got off to a flying start in the market. It will be interesting to see how this reflects in the monthly sales figures of both the cars.
In between the ongoing price war, it’s the consumer who’s definitely in a win-win situation though.
