The much anticipated compact SUV from the Ford stable –the Ecosport – is rolling off the company’s Chennai plant and is all set to be shipped to dealers all across the country. Ford India’s Chennai facility is the third of five plants globally where the Ford EcoSport will be produced.

Currently it is being produced in Brazil, China and with production starting subsequently in Thailand and Russia.

Ford has invested US$142 million to produce the EcoSport at its Ford India manufacturing facility in Chennai. Alan Mullaly, President and CEO, Ford, said, “The Chennai team, together with our supplier partners, has done an outstanding job in delivering our customers a great looking, fuel efficient, safe, compact utility vehicle with impressive functionality and connectivity.”

Dave Schoch, president of Ford Asia Pacific added saying, “Growth in Asia Pacific is the cornerstone of our global growth strategy, and having a strong base in India will help us to align production with demand and make the most of these market opportunities.”

Ford is still tight-lipped about the price of this compact SUV but has asked the dealers to commence bookings of the car.
