Fiat India launched a budget version of the Linea sedan and has called it the Linea Classic. The price of the Fiat sedan starts from Rs.5.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Fiat has eliminated a lot of equipment. The interior of the Linea Classic is all black, steering mounted controls are done away with and there isn’t any audio system either. Manual air-conditioning, manual mirror controls, Blue & Me is out too and so is the front arm-rest and driver’s side airbag.

The exterior sees no changes and the Linea Classic gets 14-inch steel wheels, no chrome trims on the grille or the door handles and no foglamps.

Fiat has retained the 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine under the hood which is now detuned to produce 75bhp instead of the earlier 90. Fiat has not fiddled with the 1.4-litre petrol engine and it still produces 88bhp.

The Linea Classic will be available in one petrol and two diesel variants- Linea Classic Petrol, Linea Classic Diesel and Linea Classic Plus Diesel. The Linea Classic Plus will get an integrated CD/MP3 audio system as standard.

Prices are as follows: (ex-showroom, Delhi)

Linea Classic Petrol – Rs. 5.99 lakhs

Linea Classic Diesel – Rs. 6.96 lakhs

Linea Classic Plus Diesel – Rs. 7.51 lakhs
