Fiat has launched the most powerful hot hatchback in India, the Abarth Punto with a headline figure of 145bhp. But that's not all, an Abarth powered Avventura has also been introduced

It has been a while since Fiat India confirmed the launch of a hot version of the Punto Evo hatchback with the Abarth Punto badge. The Indian hot hatchback scene has always been a small one with usually just a single model or two on the market. In recent times, Volkswagen has been retailing the only two hot hatchbacks available at the affordable side of the scale, in the form of the Volkswagen Polo GT TDI and GT TSI.

But Fiat’s new offering has seriously left them in the shadow with its 1.4 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine developing a max power output of 145bhp @ 5,500 rpm and 212Nm of peak torque between 2,000 - 4,000 rpm. Power is channeled to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. In comparison the VW models only develop 103bhp of maximum power.

0 to 100 km/h is dealt with in 8.8 seconds by the Abarth Punto while its top speed is pegged at 190 km/h.

And the new Fiat Abarth Punto looks the part too with its Abarth exterior decals, red accents on the bumpers, red ORVM casings, chrome tipped tail pipe and Abarth Scorpion sytled 16 inch alloy wheels that make sure the car is visually distinguished from the standard Fiat Punto Evo model. Not to mention the kind of attention its going to grab on the road. Completing the exterior revamp are the Abarth badges that have replaced the Fiat logos at the front and rear.

Changes to the interiors of the Abarth Punto model include all black interiors with contrast orange and yellow stitching along with a few Abarth badges. The Fiat logo on the steering wheel too is replaced by an Abarth badge. The Abarth instrument cluster is also new and so are the sporty steel pedals.

The Fiat Avventura Abarth is also powered by the same engine albeit in a slightly lower tune with 140bhp @ 5,500 rpm and 210Nm of max torque between 2,000 - 4,000 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox as well. In comparison to the Abarth Punto, the styling of the Avventura Abarth is a bit more conservative. The Avventura Abarth can do 0 - 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds.

Both the  Fiat Abarth Punto Abarth and the Fiat Avventura Abarth is priced at Rs. 9.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi)

While the both these Abarth models surely impress on the aesthetics front and on paper specifications, stay tuned to autoX for the First Drive report of the new hot hatch to see hot it performs on the road.
