Volkswagen India today launched the face lifted version of its Polo hatchback in India. Having seen some tough times in a difficult market recently, the changes to the Polo are central to an effort to increase VW India's sales figures.
The main changes to the VW Polo are largely cosmetic, with the new car featuring revised front and rear bumpers, changes to the head and tail lamps, revised 15" alloy wheels and additional interior trim. Featuring new upholstery, a different, upgraded steering wheel and Bluetooth connectivity along with voice control, the interiors of the Polo offer a richer experience to the consumers. And to keep safety in mind, all models of the Polo features dual front airbags as standard.
Mechanically, the main change to the Polo is the introduction of a new four-cylinder 1.5-liter diesel engine. Fitted on both the TDI and the GT TDI models, the new engine produces 89bhp and 230Nm of torque in TDI trim, while in GT TDI spec the output goes up to 104bhp and 250Nm of torque. The new engine also promises to enhance the fuel efficiency figures of the Polo, with claimed figures for the TDI being 20.14km/l, while the GT TDI is rated at 19.91km/l.
The petrol power plants however are a carry on, with the regular petrol versions featuring the 1.2-liter MPI engine, while the sportier GT TSI is fitted with a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine for superior performance. And while the GT TSI version comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox, all other versions of the car fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
Offering useful improvements to the car, regular versions of the Polo are now available at VW dealerships. However, the face lifted GT TDI and GT TSI models will only hit the showrooms by early-September. The pricing of the revised Polo is as follows:
Polo 1.2 MPI - 4.99 - 6.07 Lakhs
Polo 1.5 TDI - 6.27 - 7.37 Lakhs
Cross Polo - 7.90 Lakhs
Polo GT TDI - 7.99 Lakhs
Polo GT TSI - 7.99 Lakhs
