Held between November 19 and December 6, Dubai Motor Festival provided the visitors three action-packed weeks.
This was the second edition of the Dubai Motor Festival and Dubai tourism made sure that it has something for every visitor. The event promised to offer endless fun and entertainment for families by clubbing it with the city’s bustling passion for automobiles.
Almost 600 of world’s most exotic and desired automobiles formed the cavalcade and pleased the eyes of the visitors. Some of the most exotic supercars offered free rides around the city to the visitors. A dedicated ‘motor village’ packed with activities planned around a family was also one of the highlights of the citywide motoring carnival.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, the Dubai Motor Festival was organised by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), an agency of the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) under the theme 'Passion on Wheels'.
Commenting on the success, Jin Chwen Ong, Director, Dubai Motor Festival said, “In only its second year, the Dubai Motor Festival has taken its place not only as a key addition to the city's list of annual festivals, but a spectacle like no other that one just cannot afford to miss - whether one is a motorsport enthusiast or not. It's a festival that engages and entertains everyone, from ardent petrolheads to families and children, and it is this breathtaking sweep of appeal, along with the sheer scale and uniqueness of the events that made DMF such a favourite with people of all ages. One would be hard-pressed to find another motoring event - anywhere - that combines such an incredible range of world-class attractions and innovative events, featuring international celebrities, global brands and local and regional motoring stars. Indeed, we can assure everyone that this is just the beginning of our promise to showcase Dubai's passion for motoring and its emergence as a motoring capital of the Middle East.”
More than 10,000 people visited the motor village on November 28. The Dubai Grand Parade was flagged off by Arab world's leading motorsport figure Mohammed Bin Sulayem and led by Dubai Police's supercars. The Parade offered an unforgettable experience for participants and spectators as a mass convoy comprising over 600 head-turning automobiles set off from Meydan on a tour of Dubai's world-renowned landmarks.
The event also bagged two Guinness World Records:
1) For the largest number of car brands in a single motorcade with 58 of the world's leading automotive brands present
2) For the longest selfie relay that featured 289 participants joining hands
The USP of the event was the Supercar Taxi service that provided the visitors the chance to ride around town in a million dirham luxury car absolutely free. With a fleet comprising show-stopping models such as the Ferrari California, Lamborghini Aventador, Rolls-Royce Wraith and Bentley Continental GT, the Supercar Taxi served up a delightful surprise for tourists and residents as it picked up customers from popular Dubai landmarks to ferry them to destinations within city limits.
