Rolls-Royce Motor Cars revealed their next car to bear the Spirit of Ecstasy will be a convertible called Dawn. The super luxury brand, owned by BMW, have decided to revive a name from the 1950s. The name Dawn was previously given to just 28 drophead models between 1950 and 1954.
The car was unveiled at the 2015 Rolls-Royce World Dealer Conference in Los Angeles, where the marque’s 130 global dealers were present. According to the iconic car maker, Dawn is the next step in the renaissance of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, which began in 2003 with the launch of Phantom and subsequent introductions of Ghost and Wraith. Dawn is the fourth new model since BMW took over the super-luxury brand in 2003.
“Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date,” said Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes, Chief Executive Officer. “Dawn is a beautiful new open-top motor car with a name that suggests the fresh opportunities that every new day holds – an awakening, an opening up of one’s senses and a burst of sunshine. It will be the most social of super-luxury motor cars for those beautiful people who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s social hotspots,” he added.
No details have been revealed by Rolls-Royce yet, but it is believed that the Dawn will be underpinned by the new BMW 7 Series, though it will be powered by its own colossal V12 engine. The Dawn will go on sale in early 2016.
