Datsun has unveiled its second model, a seven-seat MPV called the Go+ at the Indonesian motor show. Indonesia is the largest MPV market in the region and so we can understand why Datsun chose to unveil it there.
Although longer in overall length in comparison to the hatchback, the Datsun Go+ is built on the same 2450mm wheelbase. If you compare it to something like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, the Datsun Go+ has a shorter wheelbase. Infact Maruti Suzuki does export the Ertiga to Indonesia.
The Go+ is identical to the Go hatchback. Extra space for the third row has been provided by extending the overall length of the car to 3995mm thus bringing it under the sub-4 metre bracket, which means lower excise duty. The longer overhang is where the third row of passengers sit but from the looks of it, it doesn’t look too spacious.
Datsun has used the same hatch at the rear as well, with the same tail-lights used and the company will hence save a lot of money which means that the price of the car too will be lower.
The Datsun Go+ will be powered by the same 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that will also do duty on the Datsun Go hatchback. Nissan has done a good job when it comes to designing the car and the MPV looks very attractive. We expect the price of the car to be sub-5 lakhs and in India that is an extremely attractive price for an MPV.
