Nissan officially announced that the Datsun badged car will make its world premiere on the 15th of July at the Kingdom of Dreams in Delhi. Datsun is the Franco-Japanese automaker’s budget brand of cars, made especially for developing markets like India, Russia and South Africa.
Codenamed K2, the Datsun car will be based on the previous generation Nissan Micra’s K12 platform and it’s likely that it will be priced below the new generation Micra. Be rest assured though, that, it will be an all-new design and not a stripped down version of the Nissan Micra.
The Datsun brand’s introduction to India is mainly to increase sales volumes and this will see it compete in the highly competitive small car segment. This segment already has big players like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Chevrolet and it will be an uphill task for a new entrant like Datsun to eat into the sales of such competitors.
