MG Motor India has revealed that Comet will be the name of its upcoming compact EV. The name of the EV is inspired by a British aircraft that competed in the 1934 England-Australia MacRobertson Air Race. According to the company, the electric vehicle, designed for people who commute in cities, will have a reduced carbon impact. Speculations are rife in the industry that MG will introduce the much-awaited Air EV by the name of Comet in India. It will reportedly sport a design, identical to the Wuling Air EV, offered in international markets. Its front end has a charging outlet in the middle of the fascia, vertically stacked twin projector headlamps on either side, a broad air dam flanked by turn indicators, and an LED DRL with an integrated light bar below the windscreen.
The side profile of the upcoming EV may have door-mounted ORVMs and steel wheels with wheel covers. At the rear, the small EV is likely to have vertically stacked tail lights, an LED light bar below the rear windscreen, a high-mounted stop lamp, and a rear bumper with a number plate recess and reflectors.

There is no official information on specs, features, and others, but as mentioned, the upcoming vehicle could be the long-waited MG Air EV, it may come with mechanical specifications as offered internationally. Globally, the Air EV is available with two battery pack configurations: a 17.3kWh unit with a stated range of 200 kilometre and a 26.7kWh with a claimed range of 300 kilometre. At this time, it is unclear which specifics will be included in the India-spec model.
Inside, the upcoming EV could get a big single-piece screen that houses the infotainment system and fully digital instrument console, slender AC vents on the centre console, and rotary knobs to regulate the AC functions. MG Motor India has not revealed the launch timeline of the EV yet. However, according to industry reports, it could launch in our market this year. Price-wise, the compact EV may cost between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh (All prices, ex-showroom). When launched in India, the Comet EV will compete with the likes of the Citroen eC3 and the Tata Tiago EV.
