Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV to Mark India Debut in August
The Citreon Basalt sits on the same Stellantis Smart Car platform that underpins the C3 and the C3 Aircross. It is the company's fourth model for India under the C-Cubed plan.
French carmaker Citroen is all set to unveil the production-spec Basalt Coupe SUV in India in August 2024. The Basalt made its international debut as a concept car in March this year. Upon arrival, the Basalt will be the company's fourth model for India under the C-Cubed plan and will rival the upcoming Tata Curvv Coupe SUV in the mass-market SUV segment. The latter will be revealed in a couple of days.
Citroen's C-Cubed plan stands for Cool, Comfort, Clever. It involves the development, production, and sale of cars destined for emerging markets, specifically for India and South America. In the case of the Basalt, Citroen will manufacture it here and export it to South American markets. But, it would not be surprising if the car also goes on sale in Europe.

The Citroen Basalt sits on the same Stellantis Smart Car platform that underpins the C3 and the C3 Aircross. Measuring about 4,300mm in length, the Basalt is similar to the C3 Aircross in terms of size. In concept form, the Citroen Basalt features a two-part grille, meaty bumper, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, and the chrome-lined Chevron logo at the front. In profile, it has a sloping roofline, squared-off wheel arches, body cladding, and stylish alloys. The short rear end of the car includes wraparound LED tail lamps, a silver skid plate, and a dual-tone bumper.
Citroen Basalt: Features
The model is expected to carry over the dashboard from the C3 Aircross. The latter's dashboard features a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 7.0-inch digital driver’s display. Other than that, the Basalt is likely to add ventillated front seats, electric folding mirrors, automatic climate control, cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, push-button start, keyless entry, and wireless charging.
For safety, the car could be equipped with a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, ABS, hill-hold assist, rear parking sensors, and six airbags.
Citroen Basalt: Powertrain
The production-spec Citroen Basalt is likely to come with the same 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine as the C3 Aircross. In the Aircross, the engine produces 108bhp and 205Nm of torque. Expected transmission options are a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
