Long-wheelbase Jaguar XF L teased. To be built and sold exclusively in China.

Chinese firmly believe in the “bigger is better” philosophy - well, at least when it comes to buying a luxury car that’s the case. Luxury car marques like Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Volvo exclusively produce long-wheelbase versions of their respective sedans for the Chinese market. Jaguar now wants a share of the pie as it plans to launch a stretched version of the XF, dubbed the XF L.

Jaguar will unveil the XF L at the upcoming 2016 Beijing Motor Show. Ahead of its debut, the company has released a teaser image of the XF L, although, frankly, it does not reveal anything significant. Design wise, it will look identical to the new XF, save for the elongated wheelbase. Increased footprint will eventually result in increased cabin space – which is what Chinese car buyers love apparently. The XF L is expected to be offered with the company’s all-new 2.0-litre Ingenium engines as well as a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine.

After making its global premier at the Beijing Motor Show, the XF L will be put on sale around the latter half of 2016. The new extra-long derivative of the XF will be built at Jaguar-Land Rover’s manufacturing facility in Changshu where the Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport are also produced. For the record, the XF L will be Jaguar's first locally built vehicle that is China-specific. Also, as of now, there are no plans to sell the stretched XF in other parts of the world.

As for the Indian market, Jaguar is expected to bring the new XF here before the end of 2016. The long-wheelbase version will of course be given a miss for our market. But does not make the XF any less appealing. The new XF is built around the same aluminium-intensive architecture as the XE, which means it’s around 200kgs lighter than the current model. It’s been improved on every other front as well.
