Chevrolet unveils Silverado EV with 640kms of range
Set to be one of Chevrolet’s most important vehicles in recent times, the Silverado EV certainly looks like it packs all the right kit to take on rivals in the all-electric pickup truck space.
The Silverado EV is Chevrolet’s first all-electric pickup truck.
The Silverado is an icon in Chevrolet’s history and one of the best selling vehicles in the United States. But with the times changing fast, Chevrolet has had to adapt the pickup truck formula and go all-electric — say hello to the Silverado EV.
The headline figures are as follows: 640 kilometres range, 664bhp, 1063Nm and a 0 to 96km/h (60mph) time of ‘under 4.5 seconds’. It’s important to note that these figures are for the RST variant, the lower-spec WT (Work Truck) trim can also be had with the same 640 kilometres of range, though has lower power and torque outputs.
Features on the Silverado EV include a rather neat Multi-Flex Midgate which allows you to store longer items in the truck bed without having to leave the tailgate open. With the Multi-Flex Midgate, the usable floor length measures 3302mm. Aside from this, there’s also rear-wheel steering, adaptive air suspension, Chevy’s Super Cruise autonomous driving system, among others.
On the inside, there’s a massive 17-inch infotainment screen that is paired with an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, both run on a Linux-based user interface that supports OTA updates. The rest of the cabin looks rather neat, with plenty of physical controls and a functional, hardy look to the materials.
The SIlverado EV could just be one of the most important products Chevrolet has produced in a long time. Why? Well, the pickup truck segment isn’t going away anytime soon and with the USA still being Chevy’s core market, it is important for them to have a solid offering in the fast-expanding EV pickup truck space. With Chevrolet's exit from India though, don’t hold your breath on the SIlverado EV coming to our shores.
