Maruti Suzuki leads with 48 per cent market share and the closest second is Hyundai India with 16 per cent market share. Tata comes in third at 9.5 per cent and Mahindra claims 6.6 per cent of the market share
The second wave of the pandemic has eased down, and most carmakers have resumed their production in a phased manner. This has allowed most manufacturers to regain the grip of the market. Most manufacturers are reporting their usual consistent sales numbers whereas some of them have reported M-o-M (Month-on-Month) or even Y-o-Y (Year-on-Year) growth in respectable numbers.
Mahindra
The utility vehicle maker has sold 16,913 units of passenger vehicles in June 2021. The Y-o-Y comparison stands 8,838 units higher than what the company sold in June 2020. Mahindra reports a 109 per cent growth in domestic sales. Interestingly, Mahindra’s exports have seen a hike of 206 per cent, from 853 units in June 2020 up to 2607 units in June 2021. Comparatively, the M-o-M sales, have grown up to 111 per cent. Mahindra sold 8,004 units domestically in the month of May 2021.
Kia India
Kia India has registered a Y-o-Y growth of 106 per cent and an M-o-M growth of 36 per cent in the month of June 2021. The domestic sales were recorded at 15,015 units in June 2021. That is 3,965 units more than May 2021’s 11,050 units. Last year in June 2020, Kia India recorded 7,275 units. Last month (June 2021), Kia India sold 8,549, 5,963 and 503 units of the Seltos, Sonet and Carnival respectively. In the first half of 2021, Kia India sold close to 1 lakh vehicles out of which Seltos contributed 50 per cent of the sales. Almost 46,000 units of the Sonet were sold and close to 4,000 units of the Carnival were sold between 2021 January-June.
Tata Motors
Private vehicles sales for Tata Motors stood at 24,110 units in June 2021. The company has reported 111 per cent of Y-o-Y growth. Tata Motors managed to clock 11,419 units of domestic sales last year in June 2020. The M-o-M sales are up by 58 per cent for Tata Motors. In May 2021, Tata Motors manage 15,181 units of domestic sales and last month, the company has seen a rise of 8,929 units
Nissan India
In June 2020, Nissan India sold 576 units. Last month (June 2021) Nissan India clocked 3,503 units of sales with the majority of numbers contributed by Magnite. Nissan India has over 5,000 units of Magine since its launch. Nissan India has seen a Y-o-Y growth in sales figure of 508 per cent. M-o-M sales figures stand at 1,235 units in May 2021, whereas June 2021 sales figure has seen a hike of 183 per cent and is marked at 3,503 units.
MG Motors India
MG Motors has gained 250 per cent of M-o-M sales as the company sold 3,558 in June 2021 compared to 1,016 units in May 2021. The Y-o-Y sales numbers are higher by 77 per cent, where the carmaker sold 2,012 units in June last year. The carmaker has retailed 7,139 units during 2021 Q2, registering a growth of 162 per cent over 2,722 units sold in the same quarter last year.
Maruti Suzuki
In June 2021, Maruti Suzuki saw a domestic sales figure of 1,24,280 units compared to 51,274 units in June 2020. Y-o-Y growth is clocked at 142 per cent whereas the M-o-M growth is clocked in at 278 per cent. The month of May 2021 saw 32,903 units rolling out. Out of the total cars sold last month, Maruti Suzuki holds 48.6 per cent of the market in terms of sales.
Hyundai India
In the month of June 20201, the second-highest sales figure is claimed by Hyundai India at 40,496 units. Hyundai saw a Y-o-Y growth of 89 per cent when compared to its June 2020 sales figure that stood at 21,320 units. In the month of May 2021, Hyundai India sold 25,001 units and the number is 62 per cent lower compared to its June 2021 sales.
