BYD Sealion 7 Deliveries to Commence in India on March 7

BYD is set to begin deliveries of the highly anticipated Sealion 7 electric SUV in India on March 7. This will apply to the first 70 buyers of the model, for which bookings opened last month with a token amount of Rs 70,000. Positioned as the brand’s flagship EV offering in the country, the Sealion 7 boasts a striking design, cutting-edge technology, and powerful performance. The SUV features BYD’s signature Ocean series design language, highlighted by sleek LED lighting, a coupe-like roofline, and aerodynamic enhancements. Available in both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations, it is powered by an 82.6kWh battery pack, delivering an impressive range. Competing with models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Volvo EX40, the Sealion 7 aims to strengthen BYD’s presence in India’s growing electric vehicle market. Pricing is expected to range between Rs 50 lakh and Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom).
BYD Sealion 7: Mechanical Core
Performance-wise, the Sealion 7 has both rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options, both propelled by an 82.6kWh battery pack. The RWD model produces 308bhp and 380Nm of torque, delivering an estimated driving range of 560 km per charge. Meanwhile, the AWD version generated 523bhp of maximum power and 690Nm of peak torque, with a slightly lower range of 530 km.
BYD Sealion 7: Styling Cues
The BYD Sealion 7 is an all-electric SUV with a four-door configuration, designed with a coupe-like sloping roofline. It adopts the company’s signature Ocean series aesthetics, featuring prominent LED daytime running lights (DRLs) as well as distinctive ‘double-U’ LED headlamps. The SUV also sports flared wheel arches accentuated by black cladding, enhancing its rugged appeal.

A dual-tone rear bumper with two aerodynamic spoilers – one positioned on the roof and another on the boot lid – adds to its sporty profile. Furthermore, it has seamlessly integrated wraparound LED taillights connected by a sleek LED light bar. Customers can choose from four paint jobs: Aurora White, Atlantis Grey, Shark Grey, and Cosmos Black.
BYD Sealion 7: Interior Features
The Sealion 7 showcases a layered dashboard design, featuring a heated four-spoke steering wheel with controls for both audio and ADAS systems. The seats are finished in premium leather. Dominating the centre console is a large touchscreen infotainment system. Beneath it, the drive mode selector is paired with a wireless charging pad and two cupholders.
Features-wise, the EV boasts a 15.6-inch rotating display, dual-zone climate control with rear vents, ventilated front seats, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s screen, a panoramic sunroof, and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The safety features encompass a 360-degree camera, eleven airbags, and advanced ADAS technologies like adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist.

Positioned as the Chinese EV maker’s flagship e-SUV in the Indian market, it will be placed above the Seal in the lineup. The base ‘Premium’ variant is expected to start at approximately Rs 50 lakh, while the top-of-the-line ‘Performance’ variant could be priced around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). Once it launches in India, the Sealion 7 will take on competitors such as the Volvo C40 Recharge, the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the Volvo EX40.
