Chinese EV manufacturer BYD is set to launch the long-awaited Seal in India on March 5. But before this, the sedan's official specs have appeared on the internet. Although official information is scarce, several market rumours suggest that some BYD dealerships have begun accepting unofficial reservations for the BYD vehicle around the country. Referring to the leaked specifications, the new India-spec Seal is expected to feature an 82.5kWh battery pack, with a rear-wheel drive setup. The upcoming EV’s claimed range is about 570 kilometres based on the WLTP cycle. In this configuration, the 360Nm and 227bhp rear axle-mounted motor of the sedan will allow acceleration from zero to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. As of now, there is no official report, but there are assumptions that a dual-motor AWD version with 523bhp and a stated range of 520 kilometres may also be offered.
For those who don't know, the Chinese carmaker showcased the Seal EV in India at the 2023 Auto Expo. Now that the official launch date of the EV is set for March 5, let's explore its characteristics in more detail.
BYD Seal: Exterior and Interior
The upcoming Seal embraces the ‘Ocean aesthetics’ design philosophy of the Chinese carmaker and is inspired by the Ocean X concept from 2021. Among the exterior design features of the BYD car are the split headlamps, an all-glass top resembling a coupe, a full-width LED light bar at the rear, four boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, and a flush-fitting door handle.
Inside, the BYD e-car gets a head-up display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, as well as, a rotational 15.6-inch infotainment display in the centre console. Two wireless charging pads, standard controls for the heated windshield, a drive selector, a scroll wheel for shifting drive modes, and central air conditioning vents are some other interior highlights.
BYD Seal: Expected Price and Competitors
The starting price of the Seal EV in India can be approximately Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the Volvo C40 Recharge, and the Kia EV6 in the electrified segment.
