BYD only recently began selling the e6 to private buyers in India.
According to multiple reports, EV-maker BYD could enter the private car market in India as soon as this Diwali. It is looking at introducing the Atto 3 EV in India, and it seems that it will compete in the compact SUV EV space. Earlier, this launch was touted to take place at the 2023 Auto Expo in January next year.
From what we are hearing now, the launch has now been scheduled to happen this year. Initially, BYD will introduce the Atto 3 as a CBU (completely built-up) unit. It will then start manufacturing it at its facilities in Sriperumbudur, Chennai.
In terms of specs, the BYD Atto 3 will definitely make the opposition sit up and take notice. It has a single motor sitting on the front axle, which puts out 201bhp and 310Nm of torque. There are two battery options – 49.92kWh and 60.48kWh. The former offers a range of 345kms, whereas the latter is good for 420kms, according to the WLTP testing cycle.
The Atto 3 also packs in a lot of nifty techs. You get ADAS features like Auto Emergency Braking, Front Collision Warning, Rear Collision Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Lane Keep Assist. There is also a panoramic sunroof to lift up the cabin ambience, a digital instrument cluster, powered front seats, and LED lighting all around. There is also a PM2.5 air filter inside the cabin.
While we don’t have an exact price range for the upcoming Atto 3, it should be priced anywhere between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (both ex-showroom). The price will also depend on which battery pack BYD offers in India. Whatever the case, the BYD Atto 3 has the Hyundai Kona Electric, MG ZS EV, and Tata Nexon EV Max in its crosshair.
