The Monte Carlo editions adds some sporty cosmetic tweaks to the standard Skoda Rapid.
Just a day after announcing the Rapid Monte Carlo edition for India, Skoda India has officially started accepting bookings for the same. The car can be booked at any Skoda dealership for a token amount of Rs. 50,000.
Through Monte Carlo edition, Skoda wants to add a sporty vibe to the otherwise aging Rapid midsize saloon. The new edition of the Rapid will come with heavy cosmetic upgrades and some additional features too. These include a jet black treatment to the grille, alloy wheels, and tail light casings. Facilitating the sporty theme, the Monte Carlo edition also features protruding front lip and side skirts.
A bespoke red paint scheme, and a boot mounted spoiler will further differentiate it from the standard Rapid. On the interior front, the Rapid Monte Carlo will get an all-black treatment with contrast upholstery and stitching. Other features include sport aluminium pedals, touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Mechanically, the Monte Carlo Edition is expected to remain the same as the standard Rapid, which means that it will be offered with a choice of two engines. First up, a 1.6-litre petrol with 103bhp and 153Nm, and also a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel with 108bhp and 250Nm. Both engines get the option of an automatic transmission, however - the diesel comes mated to a more advanced dual clutch transmission as opposed to the petrol’s torque converter unit.
The Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo is expected to launch in mid-August of 2017. Expect the car to be dearer by atleast Rs. 40,000 over the standard version. The Skoda Rapid competes with other mid-sized cars like Honda City, Maruti Ciaz, the upcoming new Hyundai Verna, and its own twin - VW Vento.
Skoda India has also commenced bookings for the upcoming Octavia RS (vRS), for an undisclosed amount.
